‘Across the summer fallow fields,
Billy and I would race for home
I loved to ride Ole Smoky, he would ride the roan

Just farm horses, both of them, they taught us how to ride
Our days of summer growing up were always spent outside

We never did keep count of times, we got into the race
I still hear him laughing and that look upon his face

Billy, Roan and Smoky now, for years have all been gone
The memory of those happy times forever will live on

One day, I’ll visit the field and place upon a post, this poem
There, I will remember Billy and we will Race for Home’
